Poem for my mom ... by Cheryl Allen

You look beautiful in that cancer bed
next to the IV stand

One of your best brave faces
sticking up above the warmed blankets
tucked under your chin

Wearing make-up
and an armful of delicate bracelets

Commenting “the nurses
must have to take a sweetness test
to work here”

Handling the whole situation
with courage and grace.
